Project Summary: Choose one current events essay. Take a side on the debatable issue. Current Issues topics are newsworthy topics with strong controversial and DEBATABLE opinions, Arguing about Literature: i.e. Parental Protection pp.363+; marriage 577+; Free speech on campus 765+; Brain and the law 963+. Paragraph 1 - Introduction: Draft a thesis statement. - Write an introduction (each paragraph should be 5-9 sentences in length). Provide a context demonstrating the relevance of your thesis. State your thesis (your opinion and your reason) in the last sentence. Write in the third person (not first - I, or second - you). Body Text paragraphs 2-8: Identify at least three main points. Support your main points with evidence. Your supporting paragraphs should reflect a synthesis of your scholarly research and prove or support your thesis statement. Begin each paragraph with a topic sentence that identifies a main point. Supply evidence to support your main point. Apply MLA style in-text citations. Body Text paragraphs 8-12: Identify the counter arguments. State the claims or summarize the theses of other authors who disagree with your thesis or present opposing views on the topic. Refute the counter argument with rebuttals. State the reasons that prove that your argument/claim/thesis is better than the counter arguments and valid. Identify logical fallacies, inaccurate evidence or insufficient evidence in the counter arguments which prove that the counter arguments are invalid. Identify common ground if appropriate, i.e. criminals should be punished. Apply MLA style in-text citations. Write a conclusion (five to nine sentences). 7 pages the least.
