Project Summary: WK3 DISC RSH Selecting an Approach for a Qualitative Research Plan Analyze the five approaches and draft a problem, purpose, and research questions for each one. Beginning that assignment may assist you with thinking about this Discussion. Review the reading for this week in Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches. Analyze the five approaches presented by Creswell. What kinds of research questions seem to fit with each approach? Review the research questions you developed in the Week 2 Discussion. Of the five approaches presented in Creswell this week, which is the best fit for the research questions you developed in the Week 2 Discussion? How does the approach fit your research questions? Which approach is the next best fit? Why did you choose one approach over the other? With these thoughts in mind: Provide 2 TO 3 paragraphs in which you present your research questions, select the qualitative approach that best fits the questions, and defend your selection. Include an explanation of which approach would be the next best choice for your research questions, and explain how you decided between the two approaches to find the best fit. When appropriate, be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the reading(s) and/or video program(s) and use APA format. Required Resources Course Text: Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches Chapter 4, "Five Qualitative Approaches to Inquiry" In this chapter, Creswell defines and describes the five qualitative research approaches: narrative, phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography, and case studies. He then describes the process that a researcher would follow with each approach, and details some of the challenges inherent to each approach. The chapter also includes a helpful table that shows the main contrasting characteristics of the five approaches. Chapter 11, "'Turning the Story' and Conclusion" Although this is the final chapter in the text, it is useful to see how Creswell demonstrates how one research problem could be addressed using each of the five approaches. Software NVivo This week, consider how the software could be used to support a research study for each of the five approaches. Research Toolkit Qualitative Dissertation Examples This document contains a list of recent Walden University qualitative dissertations, two of which are award winners, that are available in the Walden library. Walden University Qualitative Dissertations (Word document) This week, consider the variety of approaches in the dissertations. Optional Resources Course Text: Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design: Choosing Among Five Approaches Chapter 5, "Five Different Qualitative Studies" (pp. 85100) In this chapter, the author describes five actual studies, each of which serves as a model case for one of the five qualitative approaches defined in Chapter 4.
