Project Summary: Recent officer-involved shootings of black men have thrust the policing field into the spotlight, with focus paid to unlawful behavior conducted by officers. While most does not rise to the threshold of these shootings, it still has been shown that some (not all) officers do violate laws in other ways, such as use of force, accepting of graft, and other forms of misconduct. Law enforcement officers are said to have their own culture in which they have each other's backs, fail to "rat" on their fellow officer, and are an insular unit. Discuss how this "blue code of silence" may perpetuate this misconduct in the context of social learning theories ( Focus on Akers' Social Learning Theory for your response to be able to apply the theoretical principles).
