Chapter Six in Human Heredity, indicates that gender is more of sliding scale. The article Whither the Y, refers to genetic definitions of male and female but in the context of social misconceptions. Rayna Rapps chapters about the impact of amniocentesis, reveal a deeper definition to being the primary care giver. She mentions that the burden to decide to abort lies mostly with the female and even refers to the fathers as FOFs ( fathers of fetuses). Furthermore, both Human Heredity and the chapters in Testing Women, Testing the Fetus, suggest that when chromosomal abnormalities arise, it is often the fault of the female.
