Project Summary: For this essay, you will compare and contrast two readings from the second unit. You are also welcome to compare and contrast Nietzsche's "On Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense" with a reading from the second unit. For example, you could write a side by side comparison of Northrop Frye's and Friedrich Nietzsche's treatment of metaphor. A successful essay will accurately represent both readings while highlighting where the authors agree and disagree. There are two ways you can approach a comparison paper: you can begin by summarizing each argument and then move into a discussion of their similarities and differences, or you can jump right into a point by point comparison, developing a summary of each work as you go along. Both approaches work well if the paper is carefully organized and thoughtfully developed. Essay 2 will be graded by the same criteria as your first essay.
