You're almost there!

In this final unit, you will demonstrate your learning in a culminating project for the course. It will involve participating in a passion project. You will apply skills and strategies that you have developed in this course so far. 

Time to begin

Google is one of the largest, most successful businesses on the planet. If you’ve seen the movie ‘The Internship’ you’ll see how different it is to work at a place like Google. Part of what makes Google so successful is its 20% Project. Staff at Google are expected to spend 20% of their time working on independent projects that interest them. This is how ideas like ‘Google Maps’ and ‘Gmail’ were born. Those in charge at Google say that when someone is passionate about what they’re doing, their productivity increases.

We’re going to take that same idea and apply it to our course. We’re calling it:

Here’s how it works:

 

  1. Choose a project that is new to you and something you won’t get to do in another class. E.g. make a videogame, start a business, design a comic book, etc.

 

  1. Decide what you will produce and how you will showcase it

 

  1. Write a proposal/pitch.
  1. Reflect on your process as you work. You will keep a journal. Each journal entry must be 3-5 sentences. This will be handed in at the end of the process. You must have a minimum of 4 journal entries.

 

  1. If you feel lost, overwhelmed, or uninspired,  email/meet with me! We can chat.
  2. After you have finished your creation, you will give a 5 minute presentation, explaining what you have created and what process you went through.

To get you started, consider the following for your Passion Project.

  • Blogging
  • Reading
  • Drawing
  • Starting a business
  • Research a question or problem
  • Designing something new
  • Writing a book/children’s story/screenplay
  • Creating a series of editorials/critiques
  • Etc.

 

The sky is the limit; follow your passion!

 

Your first step is to write a proposal about what you are going to research and create. Your proposal only needs to be about 150 words in length, but you need to answer the following questions:

  • What (specifically) will you be researching? What do you hope to learn? Why are you interested in this topic?
  • What will you be creating? Will it be a business plan? A short story? An art piece? The options are endless.

Submit Your Assignment

While you research, I would like you to make journal entries, detailing what you learned, what sources you consulted, and any roadblocks you encountered. You must have a minimum of four journal entries and they will be submitted after you have finished your culminating.
