In this article, they discuss the construction of the concept of Blackness, Black Women, and Black Women's Sexuality but in a way that serves a patriarchal white supremacist power structure. Here we have examples of sexism, racism, fetishization, and exoticism. When you read this you can also consider how this type of harmful construction was also done for women of other Races and Ethnicities.  

Think about the following questions:

How were Black Women objectified historically?

Do you see this objectification represented today?

How was the idea of Black Women’s sexuality constructed?

How was Mass Media used to construct and reinforce ideas of the Black Jezebel?

Do you feel like this affects interracial relationships? Why or why not?

How do you feel about the concept of racial hierarchies in dating/mate selection?

In what ways have other BIPOC women been objectified and what role has society & Mass Media played in that objectification?
