Each land claim and its settlement is different. Besides the Blood land claim from the previous lesson, many other claims have been submitted within Alberta:
- Michel Band submission/claim
- Lubicon Lake Cree submission/claim
- Woodland Cree submission/claim
- Loon River submission/claim
- Nakoda (Stoney) submission / claim
- Mountain Cree submission/claim
- Peigan Nation submission/claim
Assignment steps:
- Choose one of the land claims from the list above to research:
- The main events and issues of the claim (a timeline is a good way to keep track)
- How the claim was resolved
- If it is not resolved, why
- What were the benefits or proposed benefits for the community?
- Compare the land claim you researched to that of the Blood Tribe claim.
- What were the similarities and differences between the two?
- To what extent did the groups make gains through their claims?
Your assignment can be in any format you choose, as long as it answers the research questions above.
