InstructionSelect one of the statements below (the same ones we discussed in class), and discuss it (i.e. analyze it) in the context of the readings from chapter one. Why might it be true, false, or both? You will need to draw significantly on the arguments found in at least two of the readings we have encountered so far. Your analysis should demonstrate that you grasp the authors argument and can use his or her ideas to support your own. (And note: using an authors ideas to support your argument does not require agreeing with that author. It can be just as effective to explain why something an author says doesnt convince you.) Furthermore, you are free to use anecdotes, personal examples, etc., to support your view. Your paper should have a clear thesis statement (i.e., a clear statement of the position you are defending) and a sustained argument in support of that thesis. The paper should have standard (1 inch) margins, be typed in 12-point font, and double-spaced. Please include page numbers. Use the MLA guidelines for manuscript format and documenting. Cite works from the PACS 1 reader with the page number that appears in the reader. There should be a standard curriculum across all U.S. colleges and universities--meaning all students would take similar general-education courses, those courses would cover similar topics, and all students would be required to read and understand the same list of books, whether theyre attending a community college in Dallas or a private university in Oregon. In college, most professors would prefer to read an interesting and opinionated essay that isnt well-cited over a boring, run-of-the-mill paper that is well cited. A college degree is just a hoop you have to jump through to get the job you want. Real knowledge comes from every-day and on-the-job experiences. Some people are book smart, some are street smart, and there are a lucky few who are both. Book-smart people usually do better in college. The world is changing too fast for traditional colleges and universities (like Pacific) to keep up; even when they incorporate technology, they still arent adequately preparing students for the demands and realities of the modern world. If the U.S. could somehow offer free college to all citizens without raising taxes, it would be a disaster. Everyone would have a degree, and they would be worthless. 1 Jack w. meiland, the difference between high school and college 2 Frederick douglass. my bondage and my freedom 3 Jose hernandez, REFORMA 4 Sheldon rampton and john stauber, questioning authority 5 John stuart mill, of thoughts and discussion 6 Albert Einstein, ideas and opinions excerpts 7 isaac Asimov, :the relativity of wrong 8 John haught, is religion opposed to science 9 John s. strong, the four noble truths 10 Michael sandel, doing the right thing my english is not very well, dont make the sentence too complicated, better easily to understand, but plz make sure there is no grammer mistakes!
