Check what the table describes
Check labels, coding, missing cases, filters and weights. Descriptive tables summarize the sample; test tables address specific hypotheses. A significance column does not validate every claim in your report.
Translate the numbers into a sentence
For linear regression, distinguish unstandardized B from standardized Beta. B uses the original units; its confidence interval and p-value describe uncertainty about that coefficient. Read Model Summary, ANOVA and Coefficients together, then check residual diagnostics.
Example
Invented regression-output example, not a real SPSS file or archive submission.
- Question
- In a fictional 20-case sample, how is weekly practice time associated with a 0-10 task score? Fit one predictor with an intercept.
- Coefficient row
- Suppose B = 0.50 score points per hour and SE = 0.20. Then t = 2.50 with 18 degrees of freedom; two-sided p is about .022.
- Interval
- The 95% confidence interval for B is approximately 0.08 to 0.92 points per hour. These are coefficient limits, not limits for an individual's score.
- Interpretation
- Each additional hour is associated with an estimated 0.50-point higher score in this model. The association does not establish that practice caused the difference.
Review your draft
Check the dependent variable, row, units and missing-data choices. Labels vary by procedure and version. A displayed .000 does not mean an exactly zero p-value.

Common questions
Should I paste every output table?
Select the tables needed to support your answer. Explain the relevant values in prose rather than leaving the reader to interpret an unedited output file.
Are B and Beta interchangeable?
No. B is an unstandardized coefficient in the variables' original units. Beta is standardized; use the label and interpretation appropriate to your question.
