For this paper you will analyze and compare two print advertisements. You should attach them or a copy of them to your paper. If you print or copy them rather than using originals you must print in color.You should analyze who they are aimed at, what techniques they are using, how the visuals and print work together, what need/want they appealing to, any cultural assumptions, and their effectiveness.
You should choose ONE of the following as the basis for the paper.
1. Choose two different ads from the same magazine to analyze. In addition to analyzing each ad you will show how they address the magazine’s particular audience—business people, families, parents or caregivers, teenagers, young adults, economic class, and/or gender. What do they have in common aimed at the readers of this particular magazine? Why would the advertisers target this particular audience?
2. Choose two different print ads from two different sources for the same category of product: watches, cleaning products, medicines, cosmetics, etc. In addition to your analysis of each ad you will discuss how the ads target different audiences depending on the magazine they are published in. How does the advertiser try to target the different audiences?
3. Choose a historical print ad and a current print ad for the same product. In addition to your analysis of each ad you will discuss how they aim to sell their product in different time periods. What has changed? Are the appeals the same or different?
DETAILS: Due Tuesday, Feb. 25th. You will also be presenting your ads on the doc cam and summarizing the major points of your analysis for the class. Your paper should be a minimum of 2 ½ pages. You should submit a printed copy (double spaced in MLA style) with the ads or copies of the ads you are discussing
