During this assignment, students will be evaluating the various security configurations for Windows Server 2012 provided by the security community. Review the required readings and become familiar with the Center for Internet Security (CIS), National Vulnerability Database's (NVD) main website https://nvd.nist.gov/ncp/checklist/560 for security checklists, and the Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) for Windows Server 2012 R2. Download and install Nessus Home vulnerability scanner on your Windows 2012 R2 Standard Server. Conduct a scan using "CIS Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Benchmark (2.2.0)." Write a one- to two-page summary of your findings to include (a) number of items passed and (b) number of compliance items failed. Describe the differences between the scan conducted using CIS (Center Internet Security) to the one using Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). Provide a minimum of two screenshots of the scan results. Screenshots must capture scan time and compliance summary. Note: A vulnerability scan can provide both vulnerabilities (security updates, patches, open ports, etc.) and compliance (security configuration and policy settings) results. APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. You are not required to submit this assignment to LopeWrite.
