Interstate Bakeries is a company facing a number of major issues. The CEO, James Elesser has asked you to provide a recommendation on what should be his course of action. Write a maximum 5 page memo with additional 3 pages of exhibits which addresses the below questions and provides Elesser with a recommendation of what Interstate Bakeries should do. Spelling, grammar, logic, and quality of analysis count. Make sure you look at the financials. You will need to provide some evidence of analysis, by using the data provided in the case, the models presented in BA670 to actually formulate your recommendations. The following are questions and concepts which should be addressed in the memo: 1. What is the CEO, Elesser trying to achieve with his decisions and actions? 2. Identify what Interstate was trying to do in its restructuring after all the acquisitions? Were they successful? Identify what factors would impede the restructuring. 3. What resources and competences does a Value Chain or Business Model Framework analysis suggest Interstate has to confront its multiple challenges? Using a Value Chain analysis identify Interstate’s core competences. 4. Using a SWOT analysis, identify Interstate’s current challenges. 5. Identify how Interstate Bakeries is is performing against its competitors. 6. Provide strategic options for Interstate Bakeries. 7. What are the relative advantages and disadvantages of merger/acquisition on one hand and bankruptcy on the other? 8. What do you think Interstate Bakeries should do? Your case study will be assessed on the following rubric. Hint: Make sure you look at the financials and what they tell you about the firm and its competitors.
