Instruction
Scientific inquiry relies on precise definitions of constructs, concepts, and variables to generate data for knowledge discovery, program evaluation and impact analysis activities. In the absence of these precise definitions, it is not possible to measure indicators and dimensions of crime and criminal activities with accuracy, precision, and stability. Consensus representations of terms also facilitates communication among individuals by providing a common lexicon for members of a profession such as criminal justice researchers. Review pages 110 - 120 from the Maxfield and Babbie (2018) text relating to the four steps representing the evolution of measurement: (1) conceptualization; (2) conceptual definition; (3) operational definition; and (4) measurements in the real world (p. 115). Then find a research study on cybercrime. Based on this research study, answer the following questions in 800 words and in APA format. What is the conceptualization of cybercrime used by the author(s)? What is the conceptual definition of cybercrime used by the author(s)? How is cybercrime operationally defined by the author(s)? What measurements are made to represent the operational definition of cybercrime in the study? What evidence in the article demonstrates why it is not possible to measure indicators and dimensions of crime and criminal activities with accuracy, precision, and stability? What is the citation for the study which you selected? Reference: Maxfield, M.G., & Babbie, E.R. (2018). Research methods for criminal justice and criminology. Stamford, CT: Cengage Learning. (8th edition)
