2 essay questions

Be sure that you do not use the same sources, themes and/or topics for each of your questions as this will significantly lower your grade. You will be graded upon your general writing ability as well as your ability to make a clear, convincing argument with evidence for each of your claims. You will also be graded upon your facility in using the course material to do so. There is no required page number for your answers as an argument is done when an argument is done. However, this exam is worth 25% of your overall grade so these should be thoughtful, carefully crafted arguments that are well supported. Please answer both of the questions below: 1. Please choose two of the theorists covered in the first portion of the class (up until and including February 13th) and explain how their theories are the result of the socio-historical circumstances in which they were writing. What were they responding to, and how did they advance the thinking of their time? (Worth 10 points and 10% of your final grade) 2. Climate change poses an existential threat to the world as we presently know it. Using any materials that you deem necessary or of interest, explain how climate change is a result of socio-historical circumstances. Further, and more importantly, what are the ways in which we will need to change our thinking to make the adaptations needed? What do we need to change, and how do those things need us to “rethink” ourselves? I am looking to see careful and yet abstract thought here and not just the obvious. This isn’t a question meant to elicit a discussion of reliance on fossil fuels, but rather how does our epistemology and orientation to the world need to change? (Worth 15 points and 15% of your final grade).
