Instruction
Exec Summary Draft Framework
1. The executive summary should cover your analysis/report on the company that the company you are hypothetically working for is interested in doing business with. It should also context for the company you are working for. Without both, you cannot investigate a business relationship.
2. Does the company we are working for have to be a real company as well or can we just make it up?
Can be real or made-up. Need to define the nature of its work.
3. What are you looking for in the draft? Is it more of an outline/plan of what we're going to write in the final submission, or do we have to write our actual analysis and results?
Just a framework/outline/plan of your final Exec Summary. Note, I give a generic template on-line. My aim is to confirm you have recognised the need for an Executive Sumamry and what you need to put into it.
4. How many words should be in the draft?
Draft is 1 to 1.5 pages, single spacing (at most 1.5 spacing). normal margins.
5. Should I include headings or should the flow of the paragraphs just be continuous without interruptions (headings)?
Ideally, free flowing text with a logical progression. No references in Exec Summary. Can include headings if it helps.
6. Am I correct that for the draft, the executive summary doesn't have to be complete? If so, it is not necessary for us to have completed the main analysis document before writing the executive summary, right?
Exactly right. We are wanting you to provide your intended framework, like a contents list but in words. A capture of your thoughts as to what should go into the final Executive Summary. (I note, we mark the Executive Summary as the main deliverable!)
The idea for this Exec Sumamry draft (framework) is that, because we put emphasis on the executive summary of the industry assignment, students are to upload a draft exec summary that simply includes mention of components they plan to put in their final Exec Summary. The reason is that, prior, students uploaded final deliverables that did not include an Executive Summary or at least not something that would pass as an executive summary. This deliverable is for we tutors to help students in determining whether or not they have understood the need for an Exec Summary and whether they understand what should be in the Exec Summary. In most cases, I am anticipating students will substantially repeat back to us what I have already given them in a “template” for an executive summary (Executive Summary.pdf, Module Additional Assessment Information Undergraduates and Graduates). That is, there will be very little “original effort” in what they upload as a draft (framework) but our feedback will be of immense benefit to them.
