Instruction
1) An informed understanding of the history of sport in its classical forms (Greece, Rome) and its interconnectedness with religious beliefs and rituals (including reference to the treatise of Tertullian);
2) A clear understanding of the interrelationship between mind and body based on current academic research (at least two peer-reviewed, published articles must be used and cited in the paper); OK to use items from your annotated bibliography.
3) A broad understanding of the role of religion in contemporary sports culture, including explicit reference to the following elements:
a) the use of rituals in modern sports;
b) religious and metaphysical metaphors used to interpret the role and meaning of sports in modern culture;
4) The paper must also include the clear expression of the way your own view of athletics/sports is integrated with your values, your religious commitments and/or your faith journey.
Formal Requirements:
· Written in 12 pt font, double-spaced, paginated
· Title page with your name, the name of the course and the title of the project.
· Length: 1,200 to 1,800 words (4 to 6 pages)
