The extra credit paper is an essay describing the role that the Humanities play in your life. The main objective of the paper is to describe your interaction with an aspect of the Humanities.
Everybody employs the Humanities in their lives in one way or another, it could be music, art, dance, architecture, a movie, etc.
The Humanities cover the areas of the Visual Arts (Painting, Sculpture), Architecture, Music, Literature, Dance, Theatre, movies, etc.
The report must be in print form, three full pages long (about 1,300 words), typed, double-space, (Times New Roman font 12, black ink). A cover page must include the title, your name and ID#, the course HUM 1020, the professor’s name and date. It must be written in full English phrases, not in short, disconnected statements and make sure to run Spell Check several times before submitting your paper as points will be deducted for spelling errors. No e-mailed essays or .pdf files are accepted.
The report must follow precisely all the regulations specified by the MDC Gordon Rule Criteria for "college-level writing":
· have a clearly defined central idea or thesis
· be organized clearly and logically
· closing statement
- professional format presentation
- utilize the conventions of standard edited American English
Evaluation is based on specific Gordon Rule guidelines:
· organization and focus;
critical/original thinking
· structure and format
· research and sources
· grammar and mechanics
· style/tone & depth of coverage.
