Final Paper: A view of the Lifespan 100 points Purpose:

I can provide a copy of the reading to use sources from there. Instructions: One of the basic themes of this course is that there are multiple influences on development. Different types of influences may have greater or less “power” at different stages of development (or over the course of time). Further, development occurs over time and is continual throughout the lifespan. Given the importance of continual development, the goal of this assignment is to integrate what you have learned throughout the entire semester. This paper will require you to discuss four stages of development and influential factors at each developmental stage. You should integrate course concepts and evaluate how various factors can impact people’s life course both positively and negatively. Assignment Overview: This paper asks you to integrate readings and course concepts with specific life experiences. You will go by four stages of development: Infancy, Childhood, Adolescence, and Adulthood. At each of these stages, you will focus on one influence that can greatly impact that stage of development. You will be asked to relate the influence to a personal experience (yours or someone you know). Parts of the Paper: 1) Introduction (5 points) Start your paper by briefly writing about why studying development over the lifespan is important. Think about what you have learned this semester and what you will take away from this course. This is meant to be a brief introduction that will setup your paper. 2) Stages of Development (80 points =20 for each stage of development)You should write about an influential factor of each stage of development: a) Infancy (20 points) b) Childhood -can include anything from early to late childhood(20 points) c) Adolescence-can include anything from early to late adolescence(20 points) d) Adulthood -can include anything from early to late adulthood(20 points). To earn 20 points for each stage of development, you MUST: a) Cite the textbook (or another scholarly source) b) Use one personal example/story. This example can be about you/someone you know. 3) Conclusion (10 points) By the end of the paper you will have discussed four different influences that affect development at various stages across the lifespan. For each developmental influence (challenge, concept, etc.) that you wrote about, you will need to explain how these influences may affect development down the road. For example, how might the influence you talked about in infancy affect later development or continue to impact the individual across his or her lifespan? a) Address the long-term effects of each example you selected as an influence at each developmental stage covered in part 2 (2 points per stage).b) Conclude your paper with a key takeaway point from the paper as it relates to this course (2 points).
