Essay 3: Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt
We exist in a time that is asking us to examine our society and decide whether we want to deconstruct what we have created and reconstruct a new nation or reestablish the America of our forefathers. Our nation is suffering from ailments that divide and destroy Americans. We probably can, for a time, continue to ignore the decay of this nation however that will only keep us underprepared for the future and in fear of and a slave to what might come. You may be thinking that contemplating the end of our current society is fear inducing in itself. In many ways it is but we need to ask ourselves why. “What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or suppressing or any other resistance, is understanding fear; that means, watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. We are to learn about fear, not how to escape from it”(Jiddu Krishnamurti). By walking towards our fear we can sometimes understand it and redirect it. If we turn fear into purpose, into knowing what we hope for and how those hopes can be obtained, we can then use our fears for our own good rather than have our fear used against us.
