For this week’s assignment, you will need to read the posted PDF: J. Cullen Howe’s Overview of Green Building. The document serves as a non-technical introduction to green buildings and frames the outline of course nicely. The topics in the reading serve as introductions for many of the course topics. As for the assignment, you will need to write two pages (not including the cover page and reference pages) describing what makes a green building green. Specifically, what technologies and design considerations you would expect to see in a building that is considered “green” compared to a building that is not. The building you choose can be a commercial or residential structure. Use 12pt Times New Roman single space format for the paper with one space between paragraphs. Important format requirements! It is assumed that all submitted papers contain a cover page, a reference list, are free from simple spelling and grammar mistakes, and closely formatted to APA. Assignments that do not meet these requirements will lose additional points from those listed in the rubric. Section 1 Describes a green building and how it compares to less sustainable structures that are similar in size and function. Section 2 Identifies electrical energy consuming appliances and devices used inside of the buildings and discusses energy saving measures of the building, describing how effective or ineffective they are. Section 3 Identifies water consuming appliances and devices used inside of the buildings and discusses water saving measures of the building, describing how effective or ineffective they are. Section 4 Describes building construction and finishing materials, and their level of sustainability compared to traditional building materials.
