CREATE a discussion board thread like this OR respond to this one: Of all the interesting reads, I found "The explosion of the maine" to the be one that made so many questions pop in my mind. The Cuba Reader is full of readings that make you curious about why something happened. In the case of this particular read, I thought to myself whether the explosion could have been an inside job? what if it was or wasn't an inside job? While the former question makes more sense to me, I am also interested in exploring if the latter was true and why didn't any force behind the explosion come forward? Who is to blame or at least, be held accountable for the maine explosion. Interestingly, it has not yet been determined if the explosion that sank the USS Maine was an external or internal explosion. It may have been one of the coal bunkers exploding or it could have been an explosive device outside the ship. No one has ever come forward and claimed that it was an act committed by Spaniards, or Cubans, or Americans, it could have been an accident. There are of course some credible theories that the explosion of the Maine was due to a coal fire which burned its way to a magazine which caused the explosion. However could there be another theory which makes a sabotage visible?
I remain curious and interested to learn more about it.
