Please submit a minimum of four (4) discussion-provoking questions based on the readings and video clips assigned here in WEEK 3.
Only complete questions will earn credit. Therefore, it is important for you to think carefully about formulating the kinds of questions intended to stimulate conversations. Ask detailed and specific, rather than broad, general questions. Do not ask, for example, ‘When was Black Lives Matter founded?’ Instead, ask something like ‘What was the context in which Black Lives Matter emerged in 2013 and why has it seemingly gained support and prominence these past three weeks?"
You DO NOT have to answer your own questions. Simply pose them...but make them good.
Other examples include:
In the video clip from 60 Minutes,” why does propagandist Mike Cernovich argue that his version of news is more valid than what comes out of mainstream sources? To what extent can fake news have actual, real world impact?
Describe some of the methods by which fake news practitioners rely on to successfully manipulate people into thinking they are legitimate news sources?
What is important to understand about salience bias and availability bias, especially in terms of what passes for viral news stories we are likely to encounter in our social media feeds?
Please consider these guidelines in composing your questions:
1. Make certain to ask at least one question from at least two(2) of the videos and two(2) of the articles.
2. Ask questions about things that interest you.
3. Write your questions as though you were asking them to the entire class to stimulate conversation. No questions that will result in "yes or no" or other short responses.
4. Be sure to make specific reference to the readings in each question. Many good questions require at least two sentences.
5. These homework questions should attempt to raise larger issues and---when possible---to relate the readings to issues in our current world.
