  • Write three short articles critiques (approximately 2 pages each) using original research articles (not review articles) within the last 10 years that compare different forms of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins (one for each). It doesn’t need to be an exercise study, any study comparing different forms in adults or animals will work. However, try and avoid clinical populations. A review article may not be used for these assignments. The critique must include the following: introduction, purpose, participant description, procedures/methods, results, discussion, and your personal reflections. The use of personal pronouns is only permitted in the reflections section. Use headings for sections. These papers should be APA formatted, 12 point, Times New Roman, and double-spaced. *Refer to the critique template & guiding questions on blackboard.

You are expected to critically analyze the Introduction, Subject Inclusion/Exclusion and characteristics, Methods/Design, Statistical application/findings, and Discussion (mechanisms discussed). It is advised that you read the article several times and take rigorous notes. Some sample questions to think about as you read to help you critique:

Is the Abstract specific and representative of the article or does it appear biased in presentation? 1. Introduction and literature review: a. Is the research plan developed within a reasonable theoretical framework? (i.e. is there precedent for how the article/study was completed?) b. Is current and relevant research cited and properly interpreted? (to do this tip: find one citation from the Introduction, find that article and read it. Go back to the citation within the Intro to check if the author correctly cited the information) include the article you searched for/found in your answer. c. Is the statement of the problem clear, concise, testable, and derived from the theory and research used as review in the Introduction? Yes/No how so?
