INSTRUCTIONS FOR RESEARCH PROPOSAL PRESENTATIONS
A PowerPoint presentation that summarizes their final research proposal.
PRESENTATION COMPONENTS
1. Topic Slide (1 slide)
a. Research question, name, course, semester, etc.
2. Introduction + Literature Review (2-3 slides)
a. What is the problem?
b. What information already exists on this topic?
c. How serious is the problem?
d. Who are you talking about (location, time period, and relevant related information)?
e. Why is this important to study?
3. Theory (1 slide)
a. What criminological theory helps explain the phenomenon you are researching?
4. Methods (3-4 slides)
a. Restate your question + Hypothesis
b. Research Design: explanatory, exploratory, and why?
c. Data Collection: How will you gather information (from who or what)? Where will you gather
this information? When?
d. Data Management: What measures will you take to protect the data collected? How will you
protect your research subject(s) (if any)?
e. Data Analysis: How will you interpret the data collected? Will you have an assistant? Are you
using any software?
5. Measurement Issues and Limitations (1 slide)
a. What hypothetical issues could you encounter if you were to carry out this project? i. Access to population, political/social/cultural barriers, etc.
6. Conclusion (1 slide)
a. Sell your audience, why is research required for your topic + wrap up!

• Use YouTube videos or video clips of any kind.
• Include your entire research proposal, only the most important information.
• Try to say too much or put too much text on your slides. Less is more, if you plan and deliver
effectively.
