Affirmative Action
Affirmative action is a deliberate effort to provide full and equal opportunities in employment, education, and other areas for women, minorities, and individuals belonging to other traditionally disadvantaged groups. As an issue of today's society,
affirmative action requires corporations, universities and other organizations to establish programs designed to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly. It also places a burden of proof on the providers of opportunities; to some degree, the providers must be able to demonstrate that their granting of opportunities to white males is not discriminatory.
The policy mentioned above was first brought before the Supreme Court in 1978 in the case of University of California v. Bakke. Alan Bakke, a white man, had been denied twice to admission to a University of California medical school. It was even shown that his admission test scores were higher than several minority group students who had been accepted. Bakke sued on the basis of discrimination against white males and claimed that the school ...Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was born in a log cabin located in Hodgenville Kentucky on the twelfth of February in the year of 1809. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Lincoln had one older sister (Sarah) who was born in 1807. Three years after Abraham was born, his mother gave birth to a baby boy they named Thomas. The family was faced with devastating turmoil when Thomas died while he was still an infant. When Abe was nine years old he was kicked in the head by a horse, which caused his family to believe him to be dead. He survived, but his mother died a few months later of milk sickness. Thomas, Abrahams father, remarried one year later to a young woman named Sarah Bush Johnston. Sarah was a widow who had three children of her own. Abe became extremely fond of his step mother and developed a great deal of affection towards her. In the years 1820-1822 Lincoln briefly attends school. In 1824 Lincoln began to plow and plant for his neighbors. During the fall and winter seasons he would attend school. Lincoln constantly borrowed books and read during any opportunity possible. On January twentieth of the year 1828 Sarah, Abes sister, passes away during childbirth. Three months later Lincoln takes his first trip to New Orleans on a flatboat caring farm produce. During this trip Abe experiences a slave auction and is attacked by seven black men attempting to rob him. In March of 1830 Abraham and his family move to Illinois, a two ...

Stratford, located in the center of England. His dad, John, was a trained glove maker, who was married to Mary Arden. She was the daughter of Robert Arden, who was a farmer in a nearby village of Wilmcote. John was also served on the town council for many years, becoming mayor in 1568. He was also involved in money lending and he traded wool. After 2 tries of having a child, and failed, William was born. He had 5 other siblings, but one of them died in their early life.
Shakespeare was well set in the year 1592. His high reputation was in London. His earliest plays were Henry VI, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Titus Andronicus. In 1594, Shakespeare joined other people, creating a new theater company. Having Richard Burbage as lead actor, for almost twenty years they performed two shows a year on average. The plays included Hamlet, Othello, and Lear
In 1597, Shakespeares successes lead him into a wealthy state. His massive income let him purchase the biggest home in Stratford. Even though his career was spent in London, he stayed close to his native town. In 1602, he bought 107 acres of land, also in Stratford.
Shakespeare plays were performed only in London, where the buildings were designed specifically for performing plays. Most of the theaters were tall, and circular in shape. They would be open to the sky, and roofs protecting the galleries. The performances took place in the afternoon, where lighting was at its peak performance. All the roles in the plays were male performers. Even the female roles, were guys. But the audience was always a mix of the sexes.
In 1599, Lord Chamberlains company built the Globe Theater. This theater was mainly associated with his plays, and it was on the south bank of the Thames, in the suburb of Southwark. Two of his plays Henry V, and Julius Caesar were performed here from the time it opened to 1613. During a performance of Henry VIII, a fire broke out and destroyed the theater. It was rebuilt the following year.
Some of Shakespeares best work came out in the 1600s. They included Hamlet, Cymbeline, and The Tempest. He died in his Stratford home on April 23rd, 1616; he was fifty-two. He was buried at Holy Trinity Church, where now, his rest of his family rests in peace.
William Shakespeare led an exciting life, becoming one of the most famous play writers of all time. Not only in the 1600s but also in todays life, many people study him. He was a very successful and income was never a problem. Shakespeare, being an author that has become so well known is a reason why Bradbury remembered him. Not only Shakespeare, but other authors as well, from many years ago, have been remembered. I think Bradbury picked these authors because theyre name has survived many years. And names that strong have some meaning towards life today. Only special and selected authors would be remembered like Shakespeare. Hes known for his style of writing, and for his famous plays. Only people with distinct qualities were what Bradbury was looking for. And I agree, that Shakespeare defiantly fits in that category.
