Hi, I can do the work for you. According to what i understand, we have to watch the video and write a two page reflection using APA format. Is that correct?. I can do that in 12/24 hours. Please check my ratings and let me know. I will be able to handle this with ease. :)

  • How does Oedipus ascend to the throne of Thebes, and what happens at the crossroads where three roads meet?
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 07:29 AM
  • By tragic accident. In a common device of Greek tragedy, in an attempt to evade a fate given him by the Oracle at Delphi (that stated he would slay his father and marry his mother), he ended up doing it anyway without even knowing it. In this case, Oedipus never knew that his real father was Laius King of Thebes, but when Laius offended Oedipus by cutting him off at a crossroads, the latter retaliated by killing the former. Later on, he ends up outsmarting a sphinx. Then, he comes upon Thebes itself, where the people didn't realize that Oedipus had killed their king, but overjoyed that he had ended the sphinx's reign of terror and gave him the throne as reward. Oedipus killed his father, Laius, at a place where three roads meet. A fateful decision made at a crossroads, Sophocles specifically places the confrontation at a three-way intersection.

  • What crimes does Teiresias know Oedipus is guilty of, and how does the king respond?
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 07:29 AM
  • could you paste it as paragraphs
    User_4987 | Feb 06, 2014, 07:29 AM
  • That he is Laius' killer and that the truth of his existence will destroy him, are the two truths that Teiresias reveals to Oedipus in "Oedipus Rex". Specifically, Theban King Oedipus asks for help identifying the guilty in King Laius' murder. But he dislikes what Teiresias the blind prophet tells him. Teiresias charges Oedipus with the crime. He elaborates that before the day is over Oedipus will be destroyed by the truth of his birth, crime and marriage.

  • What events lead up to his final exile?
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 07:30 AM
  • Oedipus was paranoid and short tempered, and these characteristics brought him to his downfall. One of the main reasons for Oedipus's exile is his short temper. Oedipus loses his temper with Tireseas, because he will not tell Oedipus the truth. The death of Laius would never have occurred if it was not for Oedipus's short temper. Oedipus forced King Laius off the road because his procession wouldn't make way for Oedipus and his group. Creon report from the Oracle that the killer of Laius has to be exiled or killed to end the plague. He imposes on himself the penalty of exile which he had promised for Laius killer. All these events led to him being blinded and exiled.

  • What is Oedipus trying to do by fleeing Corinth?
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 07:30 AM
  • Oedipus, son of Laius, king of Thebes, and his wife, Jocasta. Laius had been warned by an oracle that he was fated to be killed by his own son; he therefore abandoned Oedipus on a mountainside. The baby was rescued, however, by a shepherd and brought to the king of Corinth, who adopted him. When Oedipus was grown, he learned from the Delphic oracle that he would kill his father and marry his mother. He fled Corinth to escape this fate, believing his foster parents to be his real parents.

  • How do these various plot details model irony? Finally, what lesson(s) would a Greek audience have drawn from the story?
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 07:31 AM
  • did you get the answers?
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 07:33 AM
  • The last answer is as follows. I will be sending it in two parts but it is for the last answer. I pasted question first and then answer so that it will be clear.
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 07:34 AM
  • Oedipus demands that the evil man who murdered Laius be punished, but he is unaware that he is the murderer. Oedipus explains that he ran away from his parents to avoid the prophecy that he would kill his own father and marry his mother.
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 07:34 AM
  • Oedipus is the archetypal tragic hero who is helpless in the hands of Fate. Whatever he did, the outcome would always be the same. Every possible action would lead to him killing his father and sleeping with his mother. When he was first told about this in a prophecy, he decided to leave his city to avoid it (not knowing, of course that those were his adoptive parents). This action led him closer to his real parents, even though he was trying to avoid this. The moral of the story is that, you can't outrun Fate, and if you resist it it's a hubris (a sin and insult against the gods), but even though you may have a terrible Fate awaiting you, you always have to be strong and brave and honorable

  • Introduction
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 08:30 AM
  • Oedipus the King, also called Oedipus Tyrannos or Oedipus Rex, written around 420 BC, has long been regarded not only as a finest play but also as the purest and most powerful expression of Greek tragic drama.
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 08:31 AM
  • Oedipus, a stranger to Thebes, became king of the city after the murder of king Laius, about fifteen or sixteen years before the start of the play.
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 08:32 AM
  • He was offered the throne because he was successful in saving the city from the Sphinx, an event referred to repeatedly in the text of the play.
    kalfree | Feb 06, 2014, 08:32 AM
  • This story is about how it started and how it ended Oedipus rule and put him to exile.
