An abstract will give you some idea as to the data collection and measurement proceedings, but you will need the full article to have access to the full “recipe” of data collection processes.
Journal articles generally have the following format: Abstract, some sort of introduction/purpose/theory section, the data collection/methodology section, data analysis, discussion, and conclusion. Even if the section titles are different, you will want to start paying attention right after the purpose/hypothesis section.
To evaluate the data collection/methods section for this Discussion, address the following:
Population: What are the population and sample? What method was used to generate a sample? Is the sample size sufficient? Why?
Instrumentation: how was the data collected (for example, phone survey or observation)? Is this research project qualitative, quantitative, or both? Do the questions asked match the research questions/hypotheses?
