Individual reflection

Write a reflection about your individual work on the team project. Reflection is a way to discover what you think about yourself and your knowledge. Reflection is an exercise in meta-cognition, which is the highest form of knowledge--it means that you know what you know; it is cognition about cognition, thinking about thinking, knowing about knowing. Reflection is also way to complete a meta-cognitive learning cycle--planning, monitoring, and evaluating. To recall the planning you did in the team project, re-read the contract you submitted To recall the monitoring you did in the team project, think about specific examples in the team project where you contributed the following best practices of collaborative writing to your team project • task definition • task management • trust • content-based skills • time-management • conflict-resolution • responsibility • agency • coordination • leadership • empathy and perspective-taking To complete the meta-cognitive learning cycle, you must evaluate yourself. First . . . Choose 3 of the specific examples you thought about from the best practices above and describe each as they happened (tell the facts--no emotion, judgement, or over-description) • Examples will be at least 3 sentences long • Prefer specifics and avoid hyperbole • It may be helpful to describe the examples using a claim-evidence structure (where the evidence can be in the form of an example or anecdote). See below--the claim is the first sentence (seen in boldface) followed by the evidence. • "I contributed content-based skills to the collaborative writing effort in the team project. One of the guides we selected for the editing project was the HP X1X supreme laptop. I owned this laptop a couple years ago, and I had added memory to it twice while I owned it. Not only was I able to suggest corrections to the unclear language of the steps in the process were editing, I was also able to locate my old manual so that our team could double-check the accuracy of the other steps in the guide." Then reflect on each example . . . • Discuss what you learned by contributing the best practice to the team • Speculate and describe what your teammates might say if asked about this example • Describe what you might do differently next time you work on a team • Describe how your experience using this skill in a team setting might help you in a future career Finally . . . Create a personal development plan. Compare team contract the list of best practices list above (or best practices of your own choosing). Choose 3 practices you think your team most needed to fulfill the goals of the team contract. Describe why the skills were needed, and how you might continue to develop those skills. Consider . . . Consider using this format for your document: • Introduction • Claim 1 o Claim 1 + Evidence 1 o Reflection 1 • Claim 2 o Claim 2 + Evidence 2 o Reflection 2 • Claim 3 o Claim 3 + Evidence 3 o Reflection 3 • Development Plan • Conclusion Check your Assignment Before Submitting • Is the document single-spaced with double spaces between paragraphs? • Is the document at least 2+ pages in length? • Are your 3 examples supported by evidence? • Are the reflections thoughtful and detailed? • Was the document proofread and spell-checked?
