Instruction
The CEO of Roper Foundation has a good friend who started a community program called Bonton Farms. She really wants to be able to give him some money to continue his project, but her board of directors need a good reason to provide the funding. You have been hired to do a qualitative study about this program. Based on how thorough your research design is, the Board of Directors will decide if giving $100,000 to this program would be a good idea. You must design a qualitative study- that is the only requirement.
Using the textbook chapters for this module (and other resources you might like) think of a research question and identify a qualitative method you would use that is focused on this program or topics addressed with this program: Topics could range from homelessness, food deserts, poverty, community gardening, substance abuse treatment alternatives/options, prison re-entry programs, anything related to t the services of the Bonton Farm program that you heard about when exploring the website and watching the videos. I encourage you to check for other news articles or videos that describe the program and it’s history if you need more information. You may also decide to do an impact program evaluation; but you must use a qualitative method.
1. Identify what type of qualitative research method/design would you use? (Focus groups individual interviews, ethnography, case study, community based participatory research, etc).
2. Write a qualitative research question (remember there is no dependent or independent variable in qualitative methods)
3. Describe and justify the reasons you chose your method,
4. Identify at least three strengths and three weaknesses of you method/design
5. Briefly discuss how you would collect the data and the validity of your collection method
6. Briefly discuss how you would measure the data.
Explore this web page https://bontonfarms.org/our-story/ (Links to an external site.) and watch the video Titled "The answer was a Farm" on the site (link is also listed below)- there is more information and videos throughout the site that would be helpful too.
