Instruction
Your research project is to create a 10-12 slide Powerpoint presentation that discusses an issues related to the family, summarizing academic research on the topic and providing an analysis of how this issue is represented in a TV show or film. You must read and discuss 3-5 peer-reviewed journal articles on your issue in your Powerpoint, and you must discuss a TV show or film in depth, describing how the issue is presented in the film and drawing from sociological concepts. YOUR ARTICLES WILL NOT BE ON YOUR FILM OR TV SHOW BUT RATHER ON THE ISSUE THE SHOW ADDRESSES. For example, if you are using the show Party of Five and focusing on how they show an immigrant family dealing with deportation, you would look for articles on deportation.
Either choose an issue that relates to the family and then find peer-reviewed journal articles, and identify a TV/movie that addresses this issue OR pick a TV show/movie you like and decide what family issue it deals with, and then find peer-reviewed articles on the topic.
Watch the film from a critical perspective and observe how your family issue is covered (you will want to take notes). 2) What issue, group or other topic does this movie address?
Create a Powerpoint presentation (10-12 slides) where you discuss the issue, describe the film, summarize what issue/group/topic is portrayed, what message this sends, and any other thoughts, using this critical perspective. You must include a bibliography listing the articles in a proper citation format such as APA or MLA.
This project is meant to allow you to be creative and to show your sociological perspective.
