Module One Discussion: Culturally Diverse Families
Module One Discussion – 60 points
During this module you read about the family life cycle and working with culturally diverse families. You were exposed to the dynamics that comprise healthy and dysfunctional families. As part of preparing for this week’s discussion, read your course materials and consider the counseling issues related to working with marriages, couples, and families that are same sex, racially diverse, ethnically diverse or a combination of various structures. Reflect on the techniques that might be used to access existing resources and interventions that might address issues at different points in relationships.
For this discussion forum, respond to the following:
Provide a description of at least two similarities and two differences between same-sex, racially diverse, or ethnically diverse couple and family structures as they relate to marriage, couple, and family counseling. Then explain at least one conclusion you drew or insight you gained as a result of your comparison.
Read a selection of your colleagues' postings.
Respond by Saturday to at least three of your colleagues who chose different points to address. Expand on your colleague’s posting in one of the following ways:
Identify at least two resources and two challenges facing one of the groups discussed in your textbook.
Discuss a theory or technique that might be useful across various groups.
Identify how you might build commitment and cooperation in a diversity group different from your own.
How might that process change in different stages of the family life cycle?
Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.
Use examples to support your ideas. Be sure to cite your points using the learning resources. You may also use other scholarly literature to support your discussion. Citations and references must be in APA format. See the grading rubric for more information.
Peer Response: In order to meet minimum requirements, respond to at least 3 peers on 3 different days with substantive responses and support these responses with references.
