Part 3: Module 1: Assignment 1 - Pre-Philosophy of Classroom Management Statement
The authors of your textbook contend that teachers must deal with serious problems from students acting in ways that disrupt the learning environment in classrooms today. You have read some of the research in classroom management that has extended to new methods of motivating and managing students, enabling teachers to create more positive, supportive classroom environments; better organize and instruct their students; and more effectively respond to the behavior of students who act irresponsibly and positively impact instruction. The methods are more effective when you as a teacher have your own clear, well-defined philosophy of classroom management. Take a few moments to consider your own beliefs, values, attitudes, and/or behaviors that you may need to alter in order to effectively manage a classroom. Also consider the characteristics and traits that will allow you to effectively manage students with exceptionalities in your classroom. After doing so, you are well on your way to developing your own personal philosophy of classroom management.
By the end of this course, you will have developed your own philosophy of classroom management. As a first step, now you will develop your initial, or "pre" philosophy. At the end of the course, based on your readings, lectures, presentations, and assignments, you will write a more full and complete "post" philosophy of classroom management. Let's get started now.
Instructions:
Write a one to two page statement about your philosophy of classroom management. You may wish to consult and use the various reflection notes you were asked to make at various points in the presentations regarding classroom management. Include the following:
Your primary goals for the students in your classroom(s)
The areas you think should be included in your classroom management plan and why
Your beliefs about your role as a teacher, and on what are they based
The legal and ethical responsibilities you as a teacher must take in providing reasonable precautions to maintain a safe and secure environment
Submission Instructions:
Your "pre" philosophy statement should be edited for grammatical and spelling errors and adhere to the general writing style and formatting guidelines of the APA Manual (7th ed.).
