Critical thinking is the most vital skill you will develop in this course and is arguably the single most important skill you will gain from a college education. The purpose of this exercise is to: Reflect on some reasons why critical thinking is so important. Motivate yourself to improve your critical thinking skills. DUE BY 6:00 PM

Instruction
Watch one video from the options below. Write three paragraphs addressing the following about the video: Summarize the main points of the video. (Imagine you are explaining it to a friend who has not seen it). What was the most important thing that you learned from the video? Use specific examples. Why do you think critical thinking is important? Use specific examples to teach others why critical thinking is an important skill. You can choose some topics such as: Are people in our society good critical thinkers? What are the barriers to good critical thinking in our society? Are there topics that people avoid talking about that they should be talking about? What can we do to improve critical thinking in our society? A substantive paragraph is at least 100 words or more. Be sure to use correct spelling, punctuation and grammar. See more writing tips below. The videos come from "The Critical Thinking Academy" (Homepage) (Links to an external site.). This page has a number of courses on critical thinking and is a great resource. Some of the courses are free and others are available for purchase. The videos in this assignment come from a free course. In his page, Kevin describes several reasons why critical thinking is important, including for logical self-defense, personal empowerment, for your civic duty (such as understanding politician's arguments and fallacies), and pursuing philosophical wisdom. Though you need only watch one to complete the assignment, I encourage you to watch all four. CHOOSE ONE: 1. Here is the podcast from the section called "self-defense" to defend yourself against faulty reasoning from, say, advertisers. Think about why you need to defend yourself against irrational thinking. Provide examples in your response. Critical Thinking Self Defense.mp4 Play media comment. 2. In this video, Kevin talks about the role that critical thinking plays in persuasion, speech, and personal empowerment. Provide examples in your response. Critical Thinking Empowerment.mp4 Play media comment. 3. In this video, Kevin argues that citizens of a democracy have a civic duty to think critically. Explain why in your response, with specific examples. Critical Thinking Civic Duty.mp4
