This week you read about counseling European American and Latino American Clients. You were exposed to the various models that describe how counselors can work more effectively with these populations. As part of preparing for this week’s discussion, read your assigned textbook chapters and the article on multicultural, feminist, and social justice paradigms by Crethar, Torres Rivera, and Nash (2008). The article is located in the Resources section in the folder marked Journal Articles. After reading, respond to the following questions: What are some unique challenges that face counselors who provide services to Latino Americans, and how might these challenges differ across the lifespan? Using the common threads highlighted by Crethar, Torres Rivera, and Nash (2008), discuss at least two ways that you can apply social justice or feminist perspectives to working with Hispanic Americans across the lifespan. Considering the information presented by Crethar, Torres Rivera, and Nash (2008), how do you see yourself incorporating a social justice perspective into your overall counseling practice? Use examples to support your ideas. Be sure to cite your points using the learning resources. You may also use other scholarly literature to support your discussion. Citations and references must be in APA format. See the grading rubric for more information. Peer Response: Respond to a minimum of 3 peers with substantive responses and support these responses with references. Peer responses must occur on at least 3 separate days. See the grading rubric for more information. According to Crethar, Torres Rivera, and Nash (2008), one of the common threads among multicultural, feminist and social justice approaches is the promotion of client empowerment. In your response to peers, discuss how you might work toward empowering clients. Discuss any insights you gained from reading the textbook and articles. Also contribute to the discussion by building on examples or providing your own in relation to their main discussion post. Postings for the discussion board are due by Day 4, and responses are due by Day 6.
