DISCUSSION 1-----The Odyssey 12. The Odyssey
The Odyssey is one of the greatest epics of all time. To understand Odysseus and his actions it is best to read the whole epic but due to the length of the reading go ahead and read the following excerpts:
Book I - page 141 - 144
Book V - X - page 160 - 185
Once done ANSWER- Patterns aside, what do the individual stories Odysseus recounts tell us about him and his men? For example, what makes Odysseus a worthy leader? Does he make mistakes while leading his men? How is he better than his men? Are there dangers in his strengths? 250 WORDS EACH

As you read through Medea's tale of revenge and anguish be sure to fully understand the narrative and try to understand the characters as well.
Discussion Boards 2 ----ANSWER "A time has come," announces the Chorus, "for the female sex to be honoured." Does the play Medea honour women? What image of women is conveyed by the play? How, if at all, does the play distinguish between male and female? To what extent should Medea's suffering be seen as a metaphor for women's status in the ancient Greek world?
