Take Home Midterm Exam Instructions: Answer the following four questions. Your answers should be based on your review of the assigned readings and your notes. Be specific in your answers. Answer all parts of each question. The exam must be typed, double-spaced, between 2000 and 2500 words, and include a word count. Question 1: In the assigned chapters, Engels, Cronon and Patel discuss different cities. Compare and contrast how these authors analyzed their respective cities. Question 2: Simmel and Benjamin discuss certain characteristics that define modern urban life. Discuss the similarities and differences in their analysis of urban life. Question 3: Discuss the effects of globalization on cities, according to Sassen, Dear/Lucero, and Appadurai. Do these authors agree or disagree with each other? Question 4: Discuss the common themes that link the first four chapters in City of Quartz by Mike Davis.
