Prompt 1:
Healthcare systems are huge, complex, and constantly changing as they respond to economic, technological, social, and historical factors. The availability of technology has a profound effect on the health care costs and the availability of medical care. Local, state and national policy makers have an impact on these systems. Explain what you would do to encourage and increase technological advances and availability and try to decrease costs for all the stakeholders involved.

We have learned that new technology is the number one reason for escalating health care costs in America. Do you think that quality would be adversely impacted if the growth in medical technology were to be constrained in the United States for one year? If these costs could be reduced, and more people could gain access, do you think that this would be a reasonable trade-off? Would you pay a higher premium to ensure that you would always have access to the most recent diagnostic and curative technology?

Topic: Differences in Healthcare Systems

Prompt 1:
Imagine you are traveling in a country where Universal Healthcare is the legal norm, and your discussion with a citizen of that country turns to the topic of your countries’ respective health systems. When asked, how do you account for the fact that healthcare is NOT a fundamental right rooted in American Law?

In the United States we spend more money per capita on healthcare than any other industrialized nation. Yet, many of our public health outcomes measure significantly worse than these other countries. Why? Does it matter? Would you be better served living and receiving your healthcare services in another country? Choose one country to compare with the United States.

Topic: Healthcare in our Community
Stakeholders in local community’s research options to best reach the public good. Offer examples of changes (social) in a community that would increase the demand for health care services and why you believe these factors will impact the demand for health care in the community. How do we ensure that funding for public health services is made available to where it is most needed? How do we encourage public health workers to work in underserved communities?

What is the role of the State Government in the policymaking process? How does it differ from that of the Federal Government? Is it more or less important? Why? Provide examples to clarify your responses.

Unit 10 Discussion

Your instructor will provide specific guidelines to save you valuable time and effort, and to support your course success. Throughout your program, you will be asked to attend various Seminars. Seminars take place at designated times in specific units. Your instructor will give details about the Seminar during the first week of the course. Please review your Course Announcements and emails.
If you are unable to attend the Seminar, you are required to watch the archived recording and complete the alternative assignment by the end of the unit.
Option 2- Alternative Assignment: Reflective Assignment
While listening to this week’s archived Seminar, complete a reflective document. You may write the assignment in a bulleted list format OR paragraph format. APA style is not required.
