Instruction
This lab will simulate the circular motion of a frictionless disc on a horizontal table with a force probe attached to the disc so that you can measure the amount of force holding the disc in a circular motion.
Click on the "BEGIN" button to start the lab. You will see a disc, a rope leading down to the force probe, and the size of the circle that will be happening on the table. You will be able to modify the mass of the object, the speed of the object, and the size of the circle the object is moving in. Use the arrows to adjust the mass and radius. You can adjust them in either large increments or small increments. You can also generate random new speeds. There are 12 random speeds available. If you want to see how speed influences tension you can generate a new speed. Then use the force probe to determine the tension in the string.
You need to construct the graphs for force vs. mass, force vs. radius, and force vs. speed. Then you will find the relationships that affect the force required to keep an object in a circular motion.
