Star(Hist)
The film, American Blackout, highlights the importance of transparency in the political process and how race can still play a role in the denying of rights.
The election of President Obama leads people to believe that race is no longer an issue. If we look at speechless by Obama, he does very little to address issues of race and gives the impression that we have made it to the mountaintop.
For this discussion board, I want to work out some of these ideas.
Please answer the following questions and hopefully we will get the ball rolling on a thoughtful and engaging debate.
You have a lot of information to digest this week. A lot on the condition of black American today. I know that many of you worked quite hard to get where you are today and this discussion is not a denial or questioning your motivations or your personal struggles. When we look at the terms post-racial, or when Chris Matthews says that he forgot Obama was black, what do they really mean? What is there significance? This is what I want to talk about and use the history we have learned to guide our opinions.
1) Using evidence from the textbook/films - if you could describe the state of Black America in only one or two words, what would they be and why?
2) When we hear the term Post-racial America, what do you think mainstream society thinks this means? Do you think the Black community feels the same? Use examples from our classroom information to support your opinion! What evidence can you bring to the table?
