Having watched the "12 Angry Men" movie, you now know that things are not always as they initially appear. Critical pieces of evidence are called into question. For this week's discussion, answer the following questions. Choosing one of the pieces of evidence presented by the prosecution, discuss the assumptions that have to be made for the evidence to be compelling; for example, for the knife to be compelling evidence, one assumption is the knife found at the crime scene is the same knife the defendant showed to his friends. If the above assumption is called into question (e.g. what if we can't know if the murder weapon is the same knife the boy showed to his friends), what is a possible alternative explanation for the evidence? An alternative explanation is that someone other than the defendant stabbed the victim with a similar looking knife. What assumptions have to be made for the alternative explanation to be compelling? We would have to assume that there are others
