Instruction
Purpose: To stimulate your thinking regarding life after UMBC, you are asked to choose a path.
Path 2: Job/Career - By choosing this path, students are encouraged to consider their readiness for the world of work. There are myriad opportunities for individuals with bachelor's degrees in psychology; one must simply know where to look for them. As was suggested in your Dunn & Halonen text, there are a number of places whereby one can begin their search for employment in psychology. In so doing, students are required to consider and prepare the following items:
A web link to or screen capture (i.e., uploaded) of the position description for which you would be interested in applying, after graduation. This position is not necessarily one for which you will be applying, however, it will begin to get you thinking about your "fit" or "readiness" for the world of work in psychology.
Resume, complete with a list of at least two (2) references at the end. Students' resumes are to be drafted, using the resources found in their text and/or online; students are required to have their resumes reviewed by the Career & Internship Services Center staff.
Cover letter (max 1 page), expressing your interest and fit with the position identified above. It is similarly beneficial for students to have their cover letters reviewed by the CISC staff.
Grading: To receive an "A" grade, your submission must:
Address all of the task requirements listed under your chosen path.
Use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
CISC staff review verification: A list of students attending the resume/clinic will be forwarded to the teaching assistant and instructor. Additional meeting appointments (i.e., beyond the clinic) should be verified by a separate email from CISC staff, indicating student has met this requirement (see assignment rubric).
Use of APA format.
Deficiencies in one or more of the above elements will be reflected in a lower grade.
