Part 1: Module 3: Discussion 1 -- IDEA 2004 Transition Mandate
Chapter 6 of your text discusses the IDEA requirements related to the development of postsecondary goals and how students can be prepared to take leadership in presenting their visions.
The following discussion question is designed to help you more closely examine the concept of cultural responsiveness.

Provide a written response to the discussion question below:
Discuss how the IDEA of 2004 changed the transition mandate in terms of (a) postsecondary transition goals, (b) accountability for students' postsecondary transition goals, and (c) the timeline for starting transition planning.

Part 2: Module 3: Reflection 1 - Video - Transition IEP Goals and Objectives
Our video for this week provokes thought about how a vision of the future provides a working hypothesis for choosing postsecondary employment, education, and independent living goals and testing these ideas in authentic environments.
The following reflection questions are designed to help you more closely examine these concepts and share your personal feelings and opinions about them as an educator.
Instructions:
After reading chapter 6 of your text and after watching the video, Annual Transition IEP Goals and Objectives Episode 49 of Transition Tuesday (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEkX4l8r9tg)
put yourself in the position of the special education teacher and the leader of the multidisciplinary team working to develop employment goals and objectives for a student with moderate disabilities who wants to be a nurse and work in a hospital. The student’s parents realize that their young adult will not be able to be a nurse but would like to find a way for their child to be able to find employment that meets this vision.
Provide a written response to the reflection questions below:
1.Share your feelings about this situation and talk about how you would move forward to find a solution that everyone will agree with.
2.Share your thoughts about a possible employment goal for this student.
3.Share your suggestions for testing your idea in an authentic employment environment.

Part 3: In this course, students are expected to evaluate the current state of the transition process in the surrounding school districts and its impact on the quality of life for students with disabilities in our community, including the post-secondary school years.
Instructions:
1. Students will actively participate in the virtual "Meeting with Transition Experts" during Week 2 of this seven week course. (VIDEO RECORDING ALREADY AVAILABLE FOR YOU)
2. Students will then write a three-page report on their experience, findings, and understandings related to "Meeting with Transition Experts". This report should be well written to include correct sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. This report should follow all APA guidelines.
This report should include:
A.an introduction that describes the "Meeting with Transition Experts" experience
B.a detailed description of the findings and understandings gathered during this experience as related to responses to the eight questions
C.a detailed description of your personal reflections and conclusions as related to transition programs in the united states
