Exam 2 Questions:
Graduate students can join the American Psychological Association and access many of its resources, but are not able to vote on issues that are likely to affect their professional lives. Using Zimmerman’s (2000) three components of psychological empowerment, which include efforts to gain access to resources, participation with others to achieve goals, and a critical understanding of the sociopolitical context, discuss how graduate students might work to gain full benefits (including the right to vote) of the APA.
Citizen participation has been described as an important community process, both as a “means” toward improving community life and as an “end” in itself. Define citizen participation and, using an example from your own experience discuss why it is important for citizens to participate and how they can make a difference in community life.
Caplan’s model of prevention consists of three levels. Define and describe TWO of these levels. Now, think about a social issue. Describe how you could work to prevent the issue at the TWO different levels you described. Be specific, state the issue, and describe in some detail. You may use your social issue topic from your term project.
