Each essay question has a minimum word-count requirement of 350 words. The first paragraph should introduce the topic and state the student's position / answer to the question. It should contain between three-five (3-5) complete sentences, including the thesis statement for the essay. The second, third, and fourth paragraphs are the body paragraphs. Each body paragraph should contain between three-five (3-5) sentences, including the topic sentence (first sentence of the body paragraph, states a main point that supports the thesis) and at least two-three (2-3) specific examples per main point. The fifth and final paragraph should begin with a restatement of the thesis. It should be three-five (3-5) complete sentences, and include a brief summary/conclusion of the student's answer to the essay question. You must cite your textbook and any outside sources used and include a bibliography after the essay. Citations must adhere to the citation requirements for this course and a bibliography is to be included after each essay. NOTE: Using outside sources for the essay is optional. You are encouraged to use your textbook and the course lectures. Any sources used in your essays should be formal, academic sources. The use of tertiary sources or open websites (history blogs, about.com, high school history sites, etc.) is prohibited. Also make sure each question is the header for the answer.
1. Who were the Sea Peoples? What did they do and why are they important to ancient history?
2. What was Arianism and how did the Council of Nicaea in 325 attempt to resolve the issue? When was the issue actually resolved?
3. What is the difference between the parlement of Paris and the French Estates-General? How did the Estates-General come into existence?
4. While the almost constant fighting during the Thirty Years' War devastated central Europe, the situation was made worse by the new armies put into the field by the various rulers. What changes in the military made matters worse for ordinary civilians?
