My Biggest Obstacle Essay - Part 1
In this course, you will view many of the "One Student's Story" and Alumni Testimonial videos. In this assignment, you will write your own story, in essay form, describing the greatest obstacle to success you are facing / you expect to face while enrolled in this class and one strategy you will use to overcome it.
You will complete this assignment in four stages: The Obstacle / The Strategy / The Outcome / Revisions. This week, you’ll start with the PART 1: THE OBSTACLE. Parts 2-4 will be due later in the term.
PART 1: THE OBSTACLE. In 1-2 paragraphs, tell about the one BIGGEST obstacle that challenges your success in college. It may be an obstacle that is directly related to an area in which your choices seldom keep you on track to success. Or, it may be a challenging life circumstance that is preventing you from achieving your goals. Identifying obstacles to success is the first step to overcoming them! Explain the challenge with enough specific details that readers will know exactly what obstacle you faced. Don’t just say something general such as, "I have a problem with math anxiety." Instead, describe the problem as you’d tell a good friend who wants to hear all of the specific details.
You've already brainstormed with an instructor, and you've used a template to write a paragraph in the Topic Sentences Tutorial. You may wish to use that paragraph as a starting point. Submit Part 1 of your essay here as a Word document. You should not include any outside research in this essay – it should be written entirely in your own words. Use a professional tone of voice and work to apply the tips you are learning about how to write well in this class.
Submit your assignment here for grading.
This assignment is worth 45 points and will be graded according to the My Biggest Obstacle Essay - Part 1 Rubric.
