The final assignment for this course will be a 6-8 page research and recommendation memo. (The page count does not include your bibliography/works cited, the memo should be formated as previously requested, single spaced, 12 pt Times style font, 1 inch margins). When we look at what we can do, and what the public wants, and what the political realities are, we have hard work to create policy in the realm of Criminal Justice. We have looked at a few areas this semester I am going to post a few more articles about Criminal Justice Policy that may be helpful to you in your final memo that are suggested reading. For your final memo please address your memo to the Honorable Jim Kenney, Mayor, Philadelphia and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle M. Outlaw. Please review the two documents attached here. First you have The Philadelphia Police Department Directives 10.1: Use of Force - Involving the Discharge of Firearms and 10.2: Use of Moderate/Limited Force. In addition you have the 2015 COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services)/U.S. Department of Justice Report "Collaborative Reform Initiative: An Assessment of Deadly Force in the Philadelphia Police Department." You are being tasked with synthesizing the key components of the COPS report from the USDOJ and in light of this report, making recommendations on specificc changes to Philadelphia's Police Department Directive 10.1 and 10.2. You should use additional resources other than the COPS report. I am looking for you to make a general argument for changes in the two policies in light of current political and social considerations of policing and balancing that with the need to keep communities safe. You should make at least three well supported recommendations in your memo. These recommendations should be backed by at least one additional expert sources, but preferably more than one additional, that backs each positions
