PHIL 3512: Philosophy of Music Paper A few general instructions: (1) Your assignment is to write an approx. 3-5 page paper. (2) Be sure to use standard double-spaced 12-point font, with one-inch margins on all sides. (3) Also write your name and your email address on the top of your paper. And save your file. (4) Your paper is due December 5th. Assignment: In this class, we have used two books: (1) The Routledge Companion to Philosophy and Music, and (2) Imagination, Music, and the Emotions. Your task is to write a book review of any one of these books. About half your review should sum up some of the main ideas and claims in the book you have chosen. Feel free to be selective and focus largely on some of the readings or chapters, perhaps some of the ones we discussed, rather than the entire book. And about half your review should critically assess the claims you have summed up. Is the author right to make these claims? If not, what you sorts of concerns or worries might you raise for them? And how, if at all, might they respond to your objections? Feel free to look at the books themselves and the recordings I made for you.
