  • Today my professor sent out an announcement about the assignment he said...
    User_33329 | Dec 03, 2020, 09:32 AM
  • One of the tasks of Assignment 5 is to implement the setPlayingFieldSize method so that the tester can initialize the static width and height properties that define the boundaries that all the circles are bouncing in. Lets say you have called these properties width and height (of course you can use different names if you wish). I have seen some students ask me why this would not work: public static void setPlayingFieldSize(double newWidth, double newHeight){ this.width = newWidth; this.height = newHeight; }
    User_33329 | Dec 03, 2020, 09:32 AM
  • This results in a compilation problem because the "this" keyword can only be used to refer to non-static properties. Since width and height are static, the "this" keyword cannot be used to access them. You have two options: 1. omit the use of the "this" keyword completely like this: width = newWidth; height = newHeight; 2. use the class's name to refer to the static properties like this: ColorfulBouncingCircle.width = newWidth; ColorfulBouncingCircle.height = newHeight;
    User_33329 | Dec 03, 2020, 09:32 AM
  • Keep in mind: Since xVelocity and yVelocity are non-static properties, you can refer to them with this.xVelocity and this.yVelocity in the tick and overlaps methods.
    User_33329 | Dec 03, 2020, 09:32 AM
  • and we use IntelliJ for the program
    User_33329 | Dec 03, 2020, 09:33 AM

    User_33329 | Dec 06, 2020, 03:49 AM
  • Hi friend, I cant see anything here..., please consinder
    ElemenM | Dec 06, 2020, 04:48 AM
  • Please note: I have cleaned and build the project in netbeans. It has an executable .jar file. Unzip the file. Copy the folder containing the project file to the directory that contains your Netebeans projects and paste it there. Open the Nerbeans IDE. Open the project via the netbeans. It opens the project in the folder. Run the project and see the results. You can as well run the .jar executable file and it will automatically run. Thank you
    ElemenM | Dec 06, 2020, 04:49 AM
  • oh okay and I have a question on code on the line 10 it says ColorfulBouncinCircleMainProgram my = new ColorfulBouncinCircleMainProgram(); my.run(); what is the "my" for?
    User_33329 | Dec 06, 2020, 04:51 AM
  • You can open this .jar file under the dist folder. Run it since it is already built. It shows the results
    ElemenM | Dec 06, 2020, 04:54 AM
  • okay but I was wondering "my" for
    User_33329 | Dec 06, 2020, 04:55 AM
  • and just in case I am sending the one of the lecture that he posted for the assignment
    User_33329 | Dec 06, 2020, 04:57 AM
  • oh-okay- That's how you call a Constructor. You can replace the word 'my' with your own word and all will work. Thanks
    ElemenM | Dec 06, 2020, 04:58 AM
  • Main myObj = new Main(); // Create an object of class Main (This will call the Constructor
    ElemenM | Dec 06, 2020, 05:01 AM
  • Just like this example you can replace "myObj" with the word "my"
    ElemenM | Dec 06, 2020, 05:02 AM
  • I am not sure if the file went throw...
    User_33329 | Dec 06, 2020, 05:08 AM
  • and for the "my" do I really need that in the code??
    User_33329 | Dec 06, 2020, 05:08 AM
  • and I wanted to start the code with public class ColorfulBouncingCircle extends ColorfulCircle {} is it possible if you can adjust it..?
    User_33329 | Dec 06, 2020, 05:12 AM
  • and when you run it did you see the scores on the bottom box thing? because when I run the code it just says Hello!...
    User_33329 | Dec 06, 2020, 05:16 AM
  • Yes. You need my in your coding. That's part and parcel of my coding part
    ElemenM | Dec 06, 2020, 05:22 AM
  • No problem I will revisit again as you want. But i know the output is okay
    ElemenM | Dec 06, 2020, 05:24 AM
  • okay because based on the files that I sent(the IntelliJ files) when we run the code, the output box gives the feedback of the code like expected to see "this" but it came out as "that"
    User_33329 | Dec 06, 2020, 05:27 AM
