Prompt: (Links to an external site.) A lobbying group in Massachusetts has rallied around a piece of state legislation that would outlaw genital modification interventions for children under the age of 18 in circumstances where the child's physical health is not seriously threatened. The bill's language... "Allows for surgical and hormonal interventions that prevent impairment, but disallows 'cosmetic treatments,' including but not limited to the surgical or hormonal modification of "atypical or ambiguous" genitalia." It continues... "Elective (non-medically-necessary) genital modification will be legal only when a child comes of age at 18, or at age 16 with parental consent." You've been hired by one of the lobbying groups involved to speak to a room of Massachusetts voters. What is the value (or danger) of legislation of this kind?
